Terms of Use

1. The service
Ouvir is a personal learning assistant for European Portuguese (pt-PT). It turns short audio segments from your microphone into text, translates it and helps you keep a vocabulary. By creating an account you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
2. Recording other people — your responsibility
Ouvir is a technical tool, like a voice recorder or a notebook. The operator does not start recordings, choose participants or know who is speaking.
In many countries recording a conversation without the consent of all participants is illegal — in Portugal it is a crime under Article 199 of the Criminal Code (gravações ilícitas). Before you start recording you must inform your teacher and other participants and obtain their prior consent.
You guarantee that you have that consent every time you use the microphone, and you agree to indemnify the operator against any claims, fines, costs or damages arising from recordings you make.
3. Acceptable use
You must not use Ouvir for covert surveillance, secret recording, collecting data about others, or any unlawful purpose. You must comply with the laws of the country where you are. We may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.
4. AI-generated content
Transcripts, translations, word alignment, vocabulary suggestions and summaries are produced automatically by artificial intelligence and provided "as is". They may contain errors. They are not certified translations or official records of a meeting and must not be relied on for legal, medical or other important decisions.
5. Your own API keys
If you add your own OpenAI, Gemini, Speechmatics or Deepgram key, your use of that provider is governed by its terms, and you are responsible for its costs and compliance. Keys are stored encrypted.
6. Free allowance
Each account includes a limited free allowance of recording with the built-in AI. We may change or end the free allowance with reasonable notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect damages, loss of data or disputes between you and third parties. Total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the previous 12 months, or EUR 50 if the service was free. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable consumer law.
8. Account deletion
You may delete your account and all your data at any time in Settings.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal and the European Union. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue. Consumers keep the protections of the law of their country of residence.
